According to Open Democracy’s recent report, since 1999, at least 391 people have died at our border. That is a rate of more than one man, woman or child per month for 25 years.

On top of this, the financial cost of this deadly and failed border regime, as well as the costs of his Rwanda plan, is estimated to be at least £800 million since 2014.

Rather than making sick bets on asylum seekers’ lives, I asked the Prime Minister to provide them with safe routes to the UK in order to seek asylum instead of more failed and costly lies of deterrence.
