In Parliament, I called again on the Prime Minister to join other global leaders’ calls for a humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza. I was one of the first British MPs to do so in Parliament.

Pedro Sanchez, the current Spanish Prime Minister for Labour’s sister party PSOE, called for a ceasefire; Leo Varadkar, the Irish Taoiseach, called for a ceasefire; the EU High Representative on Foreign Affairs called for a ceasefire; the UN Secretary-General has called for a ceasefire.

This is the only way that aid can reach over two million Palestinians in Gaza as the death toll rises daily; it could halt a regional escalation into a war spreading beyond Israel and Palestine, engulfing the Middle East, and a moment for intense diplomatic efforts to avoid more Palestinian civilian deaths and free Israeli hostages.
