It was an honour to join my friends at Singh Saba London East to get a personal tour of the amazing new Gurdwara building, alongside Margaret Hodge MP and Jon Cruddas MP as well as other community leaders.

The building will be a landmark, not just for the Sikh community in Redbridge and Barking, but across the whole of the UK.

The handcrafted Indian marble looks stunning, and was carved by Indian craftsmen. The architect explained to me how the building uses technology to recycle heat in order to save energy. I was also shown the oil paintings showing stories from Sikh history, all painted by hand, as well as the carved plates in the wall depicting scenes from the local area, including the historic ‘Curfew Tower’ part of the former Barking Abbey.
